Healing & Resolution
November 22, 2013
// On this day, November 22, 2013, we mark the 50th Anniversary of the
murder of our (United States) President John F. Kennedy.
This week we also marked the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, and subsequently the murder of our President Abraham Lincoln. In addition, on November 11 - Veteran's Day - our minds turn to the murder of millions of human beings as a result of war. For those in the United States these wars include: the Civil War, WWI, WW2, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, the attack of the World Trade Center in New York City on 9-11-2001, and the war on civil rights and basic human liberties for which people die - as well as countless other violent acts of human against human.
Cultural PTSD
I.e. all of these events are cultural trauma that we are currently unconscious to; as war and murder continue unabated, we are acting from the wound, lashing out in fear and pain, not really knowing why. The United States is a 'baby' nation, still in its childhood. As such these events and others like them are similar to traumatic events in our cultural childhood - repressed and the source of much suffering, often leading to repetition of the trauma. Compared to other nations, such as those in Europe, or most strikingly, India and China (which have been in existence for 5,000), we are about twenty years old. We are babies! When an individual reaches the age of 20, this is the beginning of moving away from childhood. Often if there is repressed trauma; it will emerge in body memories or flashbacks as the energies seek to be released and healed. The pain must be retrieved from the subconscious and brought into the light of conscious awareness. From there, healing is possible. As a nation we are struggling to bring our traumas to consciousness. Our nation was born from violent revolution and blood, as well as the murder of many thousands of indigenous peoples. And it seems our milestones revolve around our shared traumatic events as we are still immersed in the PTSD effects. "Where were you when JFK was shot?" "Where were you when the Towers came down on 9-11?" Since Vietnam in particular, we have developed in our understanding of how to heal PTSD and its root causes in individuals. If we begin to apply that to our nation - our collective psyche - the collective wound would begin to heal. For astrologers, these struggles are related to two planetary configurations active right now: Uranus square Pluto and Neptune & Chiron in Pisces. Uranus (in the sign of Aries) square Pluto (in the sign of Capricorn) is related to cultural upheaval, revolution, and the mowing down of institutions such as government, banks, corporations (Capricorn). It is a collective roar (and resistance to that roar) for the end of war as an industry and way of life (Aries). The ultimate effects are transformation, liberation and evolution. These energies in combination illuminate (Uranus) the deep energies that are hidden in our darkest selves (Pluto) and send a bolt of freedom (Uranus) to help us break our shackles and create better more sustainable structures (Pluto in Capricorn) that are supportive of humans, not destructive (as they are in their current state). Chiron in Pisces shows us our Universal Wound, the wound of the collective. It can be healed now by the Heart of Compassion within humans and coursing to earth from Spirit (Neptune in Pisces). Chiron manifests in PTSD until the wound is opened and cleaned. Neptune in Pisces dissolves war because under this influence we realize that the enemy we are killing on the battlefield (and everywhere else) is our own self. We realize that we are all One, that each of us is deeply connected to every human on the planet.
Uranus-Square-Pluto: Crisis
The current Uranus-Pluto dynamic is the waxing square phase of a 125-year cycle that began in the 1960s, when Uranus and Pluto were conjunct in Virgo. To provide a context for this: Uranus and Pluto will OPPOSE each other beginning in 2045; and the next exact CONJUNCTION (like the one in the 1960s) will occur in 2104. The waxing square in this long planetary cycle is similar to the First Quarter Moon phase in its energy and manifestation. This means we are at a crisis point in integrating these energies. It is a PUSH toward fuller healthy manifestation. Uranus and Pluto were last in a square configuration (a waning square, similar to the Last Quarter Moon phase) in the early 1930's - the time of the trauma of World Wars I and II. That square was winding down a long Uranus/Pluto cycle that began in 1845-1856 - the time of the Civil War. Our current struggle resonates with these past childhood wounds and compels us to find resolution. The current square marks the first crisis-phase of the cycle that began with the conjunction of 1965-66 (with the full arc occurring from 1960 - 1972). The murder of JFK occurred in 1963 - within two years of the Uranus Pluto conjunction in Virgo. We are still in shock at this violent act during a time of relative innocence as a jubilant crowd filled with joy cheered on the possibility of a bright future. Adults were crying in the streets when they found out that JFK had been struck down so brutally. We collapsed into an old wound, and haven't recovered yet. But we are coming of age. Healing is possible.
Chiron & Neptune in Pisces: Healing
Like all outer planet transits, the interaction between Uranus and Pluto establishes an epochal, generational cycle. The generation born on the most recent conjunction of these universal energies - i.e. born in the 1960s - is now 'in power' (Pluto) in our society/government (Capricorn) and can use that power to move society forward (Aries) and create change (Uranus). The current U.S. President, Barack Obama was born in 1961, and we see clearly in his presidency some of the Uranus-Pluto in VIRGO themes of HEALTH (healthcare). Chiron is also associated with healing and is currently in the Universal sign of Pisces (UNIVERSAL healthcare). Obama carries the cross (Neptune in Pisces) of our resistance to healing. As individuals, becoming conscious of what's really going on leads the way to illumination and cathartic resolution for all. On this anniversary of one of the more recent traumas (still very fresh) suffered by the United States collective psyche, we can gently become willing to look at our personal traumas and to clear our own personal wounds. This will have a ripple effect. RIP JFK and LINCOLN. Blessings for Healing Carol |
